We are NOT a franchise!

With so many other Middle TN painting companies being a franchise bought painting company, you need to know that – We are NOT a Franchise.

One of the most common questions we have from our current and potential clients is whether or not we are a franchise company. We believe this is an important question to ask, and we are happy to explain why we are not a franchise. These are the three top reasons why Middle Tennessee consumers are not hiring franchise companies:

1) Lack of Ownership – when you hire a company that is franchise purchased, you may find many “hoops to jump through” when it comes to resolving a problem, since typically those companies have a corporate office located in another state.

2) Outsourced Work – many franchise companies outsource their work to others, which is a typical bait and switch move used by many franchise owned companies, also known as sub-contracting.

3) No prior experience from franchise owner – many franchise companies are purchased by a person or persons in a investment decision and only care for the profit to be made. This is dangerous since owner(s) place all trust on their employees, who are likely to cause many problems.

Owner Kevin Sharpton started Sharpton Painting Company in 2000 as a local, Middle Tennessee company. Kevin has no intentions to franchise this company nor will we ever outsource or sub contract. Kevin schedules all clients in such a way so that he has time with each and every project and client, and this will never change. Kevin is an experienced painter by trade, and has only hired employees who have many years of experience as well.

Generally speaking, a business will not survive or thrive without treating their clients fair and honest. When choosing any service company, look for those who have 8 years or more of business success. This will provide you with a tried and tested company from the hundreds or thousands of previous clients who has used them and that the company withstood the test of time. We have proudly serviced Middle TN for 18 years.

Reviews on company website?

This is NOT something we do. Although we have good reviews on the internet, we find it to be discourteous and frankly insulting to the consumer to post reviews on our website. Any service company will “cherry pick” reviews to be posted to their website and obviously companies with “reviews” or “testimonials” on their website, will be nothing but over the top great reviews. We believe in being honest and providing live reviews as mentioned in number 3, as the best and most honest way to provide our clients reviews.

Subcontractors?

Sharpton Painting does NOT use subcontractors. All of our employees work directly for the Sharpton Painting Company. Hiring a company that uses subcontractors can open the door to many problems. Including; lack of ownership, hoops to jump through to correct any issues, rushed and sloppy workmanship, and subcontractors have been known to water down or buy cheap paints/products to handle your job. When speaking of Subcontractors, generally their intentions are to complete the job as fast as possible to maximize their profits and that is not a good mix for your home or business.

Overall professionalism

As part of number 1, a company in business for 8 years or more should have a good system that provides you with professionalism and attentiveness. We have a great reputation on providing our clients with a custom made system that allows us to be focused on just you and your project, start to finish of your job.

Live reviews

Online reviews are semi helpful, but do not translate into the most reliable referral. Requesting referrals from a service company is the most accurate referral system, generally 3 of similar and recent projects. This system has been used before the days of internet and is tried / tested and proven. Please feel free to ask us for 1 – 3 referrals of recently completed projects.

Well, Sharpton Painting is very proud to use the last name of the Owner, Kevin Sharpton. Our actual name is a sign of just how serious we are. We put our name on our business because from day one, 18 years ago, every job we do is our name. Slapping a generic name on a business and the jobs it completes, holds very little to no sentimental value and that is not a good mix for you in the long term.

Do they use subcontractors?

Companies who hire subcontractors in most cases have the reputation for rushing through projects to hurry to the next. To the subcontractor, quality is rarely on their radar. Practically all franchise companies use subcontractors, if they say they don’t, that usually is not the case. Subcontractors generally have no real reputation to protect or care for and they jump from one “prime” or “general” contractor to the next looking for subcontracts. Generally, their only focus is getting paid, and getting paid quickly! Subcontractors answer to no one and are impossible to find or hold accountable. You don’t have to be a painting expert to realize this, its common sense for most. We at Sharpton Painting offer the max allotted warranty time for your exterior project and giving us a 2-year buffer. We wanted to share with you taking any other offer for more warranty time is highly risky and likely a scam or in many cases unenforceable. So while shopping around be cautious and rightfully skeptical of 10+ year warranties. Frankly, their isn’t a company on this earth, using any preparation technique or any product that could give anyone a failure free paint job for more than 8 years. Mother Nature simply wont allow it. Finally, consider this, take a look around at the age of painting companies, 99% of them are not even 10 years old. And if they are, take a look at whether or not they are a franchise. If they are a franchise, the original out of state company does not count as age to Middle TN. Franchise companies come and go. So even if somehow your exterior paint job lasted for more than ten years failure free, (which it can’t) most companies are not even to be found to back it up. While most of our clients would be happy to do both of these things, be careful letting anyone record you and your experience. Many competitors milk these videos for years, and most reasonable people will not want themselves all over websites and you-tube, years after their job is done. But honestly, the biggest issue is, the client at the time feels obligated to participate but then most often regrets the decision later.
